Giving your young children a few chores is a great teaching tool. It also makes them feel needed, gives them confidence and helps them feel like part of the family team. Small chores to begin with are things like picking up their toys, getting the mail, helping walk the dog, feeding your cat or dog. My 2 kids, when they were little and my grandson now, all love to help out sweeping the floor, dusting the tables and acting like a grownup. Great photo ops too! As your kids do these things, also teach them about donating. Together you can clean out their toy box and tell them about recycling the items to a homeless shelter, have them help throw junk mail away, feed the dog and cat and show them where the cans go, into the recycling bin. Explain to them which can it goes in and why. Great lessons are found in small things. Check out this recycling site on pet food cans.
