HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Canvas or Light colored recycled place mats
- Compressed sponge
- Iron on decals
- Acrylic Paint
- Brushes
- Black permanent pen
- Scissors
HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT
- Cut your sponge while it is still compressed, into 1″ x 1″ squares. Cut 1 for each color of square you are making.
- Place the square sponges in some water and wait until they expand. Squeeze them out.
- Iron on decals to place mat or draw your cup and flowers to top and outline with the black permanent pen.
- Paint in the decals or drawings. Write Java or Tea Time under cup with permanent black pen.
- Pounce the square sponges into the paint, tap off some of the paint and going around the bottom of the place mat, pounce each square alternating colors, next to each other with the edges touching each other. See example.
- Let dry and with your permanent black pen, draw squiggle lines on 2 sides of the squares and in between the two colored squares.
DIY TIP: Check out your local second hand shop for place mates and you can always dye them if they aren’t the color you wanted.
