This is a simple DIY project that you can do in a few hours, depending on how many you make. You can line them down the middle of your table on a colorful orange runner, put them in a circle around a bowl of pumpkin soup, or just by itself on a fall plate or a big fall leaf. Whatever you choose, have fun lighting up your fall table! *Also check out the recipe for drying pumpkin seeds from Simply Recipes.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Small Pumpkins
- Glass Votive’s
- Tealight Candles
- Pointed Paring Knife
- Serrated Spoon (aka a grapefruit spoon)
- Marking pen
HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT
Step 1
Place your glass votive over the top of your pumpkin, draw around it and cut the top out with your knife.
- Step 2
Cut around the inside edge of the pumpkin, freeing the membrain from the side of the wall of the pumpkin.
Scoop out the membrain and seeds with your cerated spoon.
Cut off the back of the top, taking off the excess pumpkin strings and seeds.
Set all your cut pumpkins on a tray to dry for a day. This is optional, but it helps avoid mold growing to soon in the moist pumpkin. Another tip to keep your pumpkins longer, is to rub the outside of your pumpkins with oil.
Place your glass votive inside your pumpkin.
Place your candle inside your votive, light it and your done !
