For Father’s Day, I took Chris to a wonderful Moroccan restaurant here in San Diego called Kous Kous. We ordered one of its ‘Feasts’. At the end of the feast, they served this amazingly refreshing dessert that as the waiter described perfectly, somehow makes you feel lighter. The waiter was kind enough to give me the ingredients. Strawberries, Orange Blossom Water, Honey and Cinnamon.
You can find Orange Blossom Water at meditteranean markets if you have them near you. We do, but we decided on the fly to make this dessert and didn’t want to get in the car just to buy orange blossom water. What we did have, however (courtesy of our Fruit & Vege CSA) was fresh oranges. Soooo….
We (by we I mean Chris) sliced up some strawberries, peeled and juiced an orange then drizzled it over the strawberries, drizzled honey over the strawberries, sprinkled with cinnamon and then tossed everything to mix well. It. Was. Delicious!
Serve this at your next summer party; it would be a great dessert or summer salad. Or, at your next dinner party. It is a perfect ending to a spicy meal. The thing about Moroccan food is that while it’s spice, it’s also a bit sweet – they add cinnamon and raisins to a lot of the dishes. I know how many feel about raisins, but you must trust in the dish and eat it with the raisins. This strawberry, orange, honey, cinnamon ditty is the perfect ending. I really must come up with a better (if not shorter) name for this dessert/salad.
